Mi-Tech Services Inc., Equix’s first company, is established to focus on copper distribution design, copper transmission design, fiber optic design, conduit design and strand mapping for telecommunication systems in Northeastern Wisconsin. The company was formerly known as Data-Tel Communication Services and headquartered in Green Bay, WI, with 40 employees. Mi-Tech expanded its footprint with offices in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Washington, California and Florida and expanded services to provide high-quality, dependable technical and design services to telecommunications, power, pipeline, tunneling and wind energy industries from coast to coast. Mi-Tech has completed projects throughout the United States.
Mi-Tech adds surveying services to assist customers even more broadly. It has become a vital part of the company’s business.
Pole Inspection Services and Inner Pole Investigations are acquired to broaden Mi-Tech’s capability offering a full suite of pole inspection and pole reinforcement services to power customers.
Mi-Tech offers cross bore services to the gas distribution industry. Starting with only two camera trucks, the fleet quickly grew to more than 20 by 2016.
Mi-Tech acquires an engineering firm in central Wisconsin to become a full design/engineering firm. With the addition of civil and structural engineers, Mi-Tech is able to offer professional services, including sewer collections systems, rural and urban street design, water distribution design, site development and stormwater management. Environmental services play a crucial role in this acquisition, allowing Mi-Tech to provide environmental evaluation and compliance services. Environmental services include wetland delineations, environmental assessment and remediation, geologic and hydrologic evaluation, environmental compliance, materials testing and analysis.
Equix, Inc. is formed as the parent company of Mi-Tech Services Inc. Equix, Inc. sets up independent support services with the vision of establishing more companies and services under the Equix brand.
Diversified Infrastructure Services (DIS) is formed to offer cross bore services to water and wastewater markets throughout the United States.
Also in 2016, DIS acquired the assets of two Heitkamp divisions, TRB in Gambrills, MD, and NEEPCO in Waterbury, CT.
Equix acquires R.A.W. Construction LLC in Tallahassee, Florida. R.A.W. is a gas distribution contractor operating in Florida, Alabama and Georgia. R.A.W. offers open-cut trenching, plowing, directional drilling, welding, tapping, fusing and testing.
DIS adds civil construction services to the public and private markets.
Equix acquires Astra Group, LLC in Atlanta, Georgia. Astra Group is a leader in the Southeast in the delivery of general contracting to private, commercial, government, and municipal entities.
In an effort to provide seamless brand recognition across all of our organizations, we have rebranded several of our companies with the Equix moniker.

Diversified Energy Services is now Equix Energy
Diversified Infrastructure Services was split into two companies to better align with their services, Equix Infrastructure houses our Civil, Renewable, & Geotechnical offerings. Equix Integrity services the Water & Wastewater markets.
Equix also formed a new organization, Equix Broadband. The newly formed group will expand our wireless and wireline telecommunications portfolio working in lock step with Mi-Tech to offer full EPC & Design/Build solutions.
Due to their strong brand recognition, Astra Group and Mi-Tech will still continue to operate under their legacy names.
